the IslandA Poem by Danielle Asherwork in progressFocus on the Island I'll blame my lust on its beauty lush greens cooling rains that fall from the heavens to paradise on earth no longer will I reflect back to that moment, your face touched my neck I will force myself to remember only the taste of sweet juice of the coconut spilling onto my lips and sliding down my throat the sight of the sea and ocean dancing as they meet and become one will not bring me back to my thoughts of you how our hips met and swayed as the waves do in rhythm the song, sang like the birds, and the frogs and the creatures outside my window As I lay in bed at night hearing the rain fall hard on my tin roof, thinking of how you hear so many others speak of it with joy and glory and I would follow suit there are so many grand things to love for it is not you it is not you, I will tell myself It's the Island I will say her name, the Island my heart is magnified my soul I heard it sung through the trees on a breeze magnified
