there are those things that need to be written.

The phone rang twice and she then went directly to voicemail. This did not really surprise Juliet since she told him she would not speak to him again. She dials again and once again her call goes directly to voicemail.

Juliet quickly hangs up trying not to let this deter her from her plan. On her way to work she realized something, she felt okay. She did not want to feel bad anymore. Yes she may love him or maybe it was that she used to love him but people have gone through a lot worse then what they had and still survived to be close friends. What Juliet realized is that she did not want to loose one more person in her life and him most of all. Both of them have had more loss in their life then any two need to endure. Why do they need to let go of each other? “I was so wrapped up in the emotion of it,” she thought to herself thinking back to the last time they spoke and parted ways.

They said when they went through there not ever dating break up, that they were never friends. This was not true. What they were most of all were friends. Friends who loved each other so much they displaced their love, abused their love, and did not know how to contain such a love. But on this day, on her drive to work, Juliet realized, it should not be contained. The friendship is so much more than anything. They both needed to release these ideals of what society made them to believe they needed to fit into.

Juliet pulls into her parking spot at work. She looks at the gray sky and thinks about the rain. ‘Three times the charm,’ she says to herself as she picks up the phone and begins to dial one last time. One ring… two ring… it goes to the third ring and her heart begins to beat faster hoping she will not be rejected when he picks up this time; and then it goes to voicemail.

It rained all day.

So much truth in this. I think it is a constant struggle to 'fit' and that ongoing internal conflict forms the backdrop to so much of our lives.

Nice piece. Hoping for a follow up....
