Runaways

Runaways

A Poem by Danielle Asher
"

Today I went to read the newspaper and a dear friend of mine who i have lost touch with, his little brother was on the cover of the paper because he passed away. It had quite a shocking effect on me. I have not quite figured out how to reach out yet. It h

"

Remember when we all were together

The support

The circle

Dawn and the laughter

The home we always went back to at the end of the night

We were all in love with one another

We kissed in the rain

We splashed in the pool

We touched each other

We sang and danced

We laughed and laughed and laughed

The tears flowed

The words found their way onto the page

Our fingers connected to create a melody on the black and white keys

We learned about who we would love more than others

But we knew who are friends were

At that time some of us had little brothers

Now they are grown

Track stars, Artists, Lifeguards aspiring to be Navy Seals

With this mornings paper delivery we learn

The Lifeguard will not make it to his dream

He is no longer the little brother of our friend

He is no longer

Sinking heart

A name

A face

Knowing that once we would all be there through this time

At one time we would all embrace and cry

Now we learn the deepest truths from newsprint

Questioning how to reach out

So many years have past

Enough years to make a little boy a man

Enough years that the questions hint of no answers of how

Sad

Missing a friend

Times that used to be better left

Sometimes

Maybe not this one

As we grow up we seem to grow apart from childhood friends until moments of reality such as this in which our friendships of the past come back to the surfaces and we wish to reconnect to those that we nearly had forgotten. Friendship is a bond that last through the years even if you are not in a regular contact. I think your heart is in the right place for wanting to reach out to your friend. I am sure that your words would be loved to be heard. I think that you should follow your instincts and get a hold of them just to pass our support and thoughts. I think your heart was totally in the right place when you wrote this and I hope that you are able to reach out to those in need right now.

Well Done!!!!!

Ah Daniel, I am so sorry for your pain ..... which you have eloquently penned here. Sometimes things happen in life that make no sense, and I believe that writing about them is a first step in at least coming to terms with that. I hope reaching out to your friend will help heal both of you.

Heartfelt, beautiful piece.

I really liked this poem. It made me think of my own life and my own persons left behind through choices either I or they have made. Well presented. This flows gracefully. Fine work.
