Amelia rushed home from work because she had a date with David. She could not wait to get ready. Rushing in the door she was greeted by her dog Rusty who wagged excitedly knowing he would soon be fed. Dropping her briefcase on the couch and rushing through the hall to the bedroom to change she kicked off her shoes halfway there. Quickly fiddling with the buttons on her shirt and undoing the zipper on her dress pants she found what she had laid out on her bed to change into. She slipped out of work pants and glided off her grey cotton panties that she had on for the day. Amelia grabbed her purple flannel pajama pants from the bed and smiled as her smooth shaven legs slid into them one at a time. She hung up her dress shirt in the closet and unhooked her most comfortable black bra. She felt her breasts fall out of the underwire that hugged tightly for the day. Her soft petite hands rubbed her skin around her breasts feeling the freedom of their liberation.  She put on her slightly torn black tank top that was her favorite for lying around the house in.

Amelia threw a frozen pizza in the oven while she began her nightly dog ritual. She let Rusty go out, gave him his dinner and made sure he had plenty of water. Twenty minutes later when the pizza was ready she sliced it into small pieces that she could eat with her hands and to make it as easy as possible threw it on a paper plate. She grabbed some water with lemon and went to her room. She climbed up onto the left side of her queen sized bed which is the side she usually favors and propped her back up on 2 pillows. She pulled out a bed tray to place her plate on. Every time she decided to have a meal in bed she thought about the people in the world that thought it was a disgusting habit. ‘If I had a boyfriend he might not want me to eat in bed because a few crumbs might drop’ she thought to herself. And there were the moments she was plenty thankful for her loneliness.

Grabbing the remote she was about to begin the DVD player and her mind wondered off to him. ‘Why doesn’t he call?’ she thought feeling defeated. How many times she signed on to her instant messenger and he would send a quick “Hello” and end with that. Sometimes during the day she would go to make a call on her cell phone and notice she received a text message from him letting her know he is thinking of her, he misses her, or he loves her. ‘What kind of crap is this’ she thought with a kind of certitude? What would it take to make an investment in someone? They claim to be the love of one another’s lives and can not live without each other but that is all they choose to do; live without one another. Well all he chooses to do. Amelia places her pizza down and the DVD remote beside it. She picks up the Little Mermaid phone that her sister bought her for her birthday to appease her fascination with Disney movies. She begins to dial, 518-253-21… and she hangs up the phone.

Amelia picks up her pizza and adjusts her back on her pillows and arranges the bed tray. She picks up the DVD remote and presses play. Season 1 disc 4 episode 13 titled Surprise begins to play.  It is a bitter sweet episode but it suites Amelia just fine. Solitude is a much better lover than expectation and disappointment.

I enjoyed reading this and as a 'thirty-something' woman, I can relate! From the frantic-like beginning with Amelia's routine to her being comfy in her bed (and skin) while eating pizza in bed. Times like that, with a nice little nightcap next to you in bed, worries about a man and the like fall right out of your head. ;) Really good read!

Are you sure you're not psychic? This is erringly like my life right now. Minus the dog (I have a black cat that's regarded as my child) and disney movie fascination and me not being 30.
