only the rain and a song

only the rain and a song

A Poem by Danielle Asher

the sound of teeth grinding echos loudly in my mind and my jaw tenses again

my eyes burn searching the page again for some hidden clue as to where or why I had to answer my lingering question

the phone does not ring or vibrate

though my mind does

my heart does

voices softly telling me repeatedly "it's too late, it's too late, it's too late, it's too late it's too late." Needing to believe it.

Needing to make it final.

but a heart believes only the rain and a song.

Caged in my imagination with the key in reach

These are only matters of love

love is never what you expect voices softly tell me

but a heart believes only the rain and a song
