if, ands and buts

if, ands and buts

A Poem by Danielle Asher
"

I wrote this for my "no1knowsViolet" collection a little while ago. I am not sure what I think of it so anymore but the feeling still resonates. Reviews could be helpful! Thanks.

I love you,                                but I can’t

           And I won’t

           And I fight

           But I gave up

           You gave up

           But I love you

           Sometimes

           But you give up

           And you don’t fight

           And I hurt

           But you hurt

           I long for that time

           To get it right

           To get you right

           And you long

           You choose

           And then you change

           But to extreme

           And you feel jealous

           And I feel jealous

           But bitter

           Endless

           I don’t care

           But I love you

           And you need me

           And I want you

           And I want me

           I would die for you

           You wouldn’t die for me

           Never

           But you love me

           And you miss me

           And you change

           But you love me

           Don’t you….

I can't believe it. I've been trying to write something about the transient, ever-changing nature of my relationship with a guy that I'm close to, and I think you've really nailed it here. Great work!
