Love At First Sight???A Story by Violet MoonJust a short story about a girl who sees a guy and wishes that it was love at first sight but doesn't believe that it is possible. But what if it is???Once again, I am the new girl. Yes, I am the one who everybody is whispering about behind my back but FYI people, I can hear you! I hear every word that everyone is muttering. They are right. I’m not incredibly pretty but I’m not ugly either. I’m just average. Of course, this doesn’t help the fact that I’ve fallen head over heals for the hottest guy at our high school. He is a junior like me and his name is Tyler Adams. He is a tall, muscled head quarter back with short dark brown hair that is flicked up in the front with gel. My first reaction when I saw him was that I want to run my hands through that hair and mess it up while pressing my lips to his. But that will never happen. How could someone like him love someone like me? The answer is, it is impossible. So here I go, sulking off to my last class of the day, AP Chemistry. I walk into the loud room and everything goes silent. Every student turns their head to look at me. I scan the crowd of stares but stop on a familiar pair of light blue eyes. They are Tyler’s. I gasp quietly as I realize that this might be my chance to talk to him. He is in my class and there are only two empty desks in the classroom and one happens to be next to him. Please, please let me sit next him! I beg silently over and over again in my head. My teacher hands me a textbook and a workbook. Then he scans the room. Please. Let me sit there! “Okay Ms. Clark. Why don’t you go ahead and sit next to William McNeil. NO!!!! Why him? He is disgusting! I’ve only been here a day and I already know that! I saw him pick his nose at lunch and flick it at another girl! All I can do is nod and slowly walk to my seat. I have to keep from looking at William’s face to keep from crying. I look up from my desk when I see someone’s hand shoot up in the air. I almost start crying again. It is Tyler’s hand. Seeing his anxious face makes me hate my seat even more. “Yes, Mr. Adams?” “Umm, I was wondering if she would like to move into this seat next to me. It might be easier for her since I’m closer to the front and I could help her if she gets lost and has any questions.” I feel my heart jumping at his words. Did Tyler just offer me the seat by him and to help me? Maybe this will turn out better after all! “Who Mr. Adams?” Tyler looks unsure before nodding in my direction. “Umm, the new girl sir. Sorry but I don’t know your name,” he says to me. “Ah, Ms. Clark. Would you prefer to sit in the front?” I nod my head to answer him. I know this is probably nothing but I still can’t believe my luck! “Alright then. Please hurry so I can continue my class.” I nod and quickly grab my bag and slid into the seat next to Tyler’s at our table. “So what is you name?” Tyler whispers once I have settled down and our teacher is talking again. I feel my eyes widen. He is talking to me! My mouth goes dry and I can’t form enough words to answer him. When I don’t answer Tyler shrugs and turns back to the lecture and continues with his notes. I decide to do the same. The bell to end the day rings to soon for me. I have enjoyed this hour sitting here inhaling Tyler’s smell and memorizing his perfect face. I hid behind my long dark brown hair the whole class and would sneak a peak at him whenever he was writing and I was sure that he wasn’t looking. He only caught me once in the middle of class but he didn’t say anything or show any acknowledgement. I stuffed my things in my bag and looked up as he started to leave. “It’s Abby,” I whisper. He turns around with a surprised look on his face. There was no way he could have heard me. I hadn’t said it very loud. “What did you say?” I just shake my head without looking up. Out of the corner of my eye I see him shrug. He turns to leave and I manage to whisper again. “My name is Abby.” Once again, he turns and faces me. “Okay, I know that you said something. What is it? Do I have something stuck on my back or something?” I smile faintly at his question. Of course there is nothing there! I look up and met his eyes briefly. He stands there waiting for me to reply. I sigh and manage to get the words out. “I just said that my name was Abby.” “Oh, okay. Well, it’s nice to meet you Abby. Next time, just speak up. I’m not going to bite you for talking or anything.” I smile and nod. “Okay, well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then.” I nod again and look up to watch him leave. I was right, he is way out of my league. I walk home in silence. Thinking about Tyler and how I need to get over him. When, I get home I only talk enough to keep my family from pestering me about school. I go to bed early, wondering what tomorrow will be like. ~*~ Today, school has gone by slowly again. Now, I’m heading off to Chemistry. I take my seat next to Tyler and smile faintly when he looks at me. “Good afternoon, Abby. How has your second day of school been?” I am shocked to hear him speak to me. Luckily, I am able to form words. “Uhh, okay. I’ve had worse.” “Oh well, is everyone being nice to you?” It feels like my mom is talking to me now. I shrug. “They aren’t being mean or anything.” “Well, what about me? Am I being mean?” “No! Of course not! You’ve been the nicest to me out of everyone,” I reply quickly. I can’t let him thinking that I don’t like him. “Okay, I guess that is good then. How about this? You come with me to get some ice cream after school and I’ll take you to a party tonight and introduce you to everyone. Is it a deal?” Is he asking me on a date? Oh whatever! I’ll take what I can get! “Okay, thank you. That would be nice,” I answer quietly. “Great! Then it’s a date!” Our teacher glares at us right then and we stop whispering. I can’t believe it! I’m going on a date with Tyler! The rest of the period passes by way to slow for me. Tyler waits patiently while I stuff my books in my bag. When I stand up, he extends his hand toward me. I reach my hand out and place it gently on his. He closes his fingers around mine and squeezes once. Tyler smiles and leads the way out to his car. His car is a nice black Corvette that looks brand new. Tyler opens the back and sets our bags down. Then he opens the passenger door for me and waits till I have climbed in before closing it and coming around to the other side and getting in. We ride in silence until we get to the drive through at the ice cream shop and he asks me what I want to give them our order. After that we drive to the nearby park and get out of his car and walk around eating our ice cream. “So, why did your family move here?” he asks after awhile. “Umm, my dad is in the Army and we move around a lot.” “Oh, so you might not be staying very long then?” he asks. I hear a hint of sorrow in his voice. Why though, I don’t know. “Well, we could end up living here permanently or we might only stay for a couple of months. I never know. Why?” I ask curiously. “Well, umm. Uh. Umm, never mind.” “Go ahead,” I encourage. “Okay, promise not to laugh or run away?” I nod. “Okay, I know that I don’t know you very well yet but I feel, umm how should I put this? Uh, I feel very attracted to you,” he starts to mumble at the end. I wasn’t sure if I was hearing him right. “Wait, you are attracted to me?” He nods. “Huh, I never thought that I would hear you say that.” “I know. It’s stupid. Clearly you don’t feel the same way so just forget about it. Let’s just stick to being friends.” He starts to walk quickly away. I hurry to catch up to him. I’m glad that we are walking by a bench. I pull on his arm and sit down on the bench. I motion for him to sit next me. He thinks for a minute before doing so. He licks his ice cream in silence and I think of what to say. “Tyler, listen to me for a minute please.” He looks up from his ice cream and nods for me to continue. “I didn’t say anything when you said that you liked me because…” “I said just to let it go.” “Wait, just let me finish. It was because I really like you. I was so excited when you asked if I could move up next to you in class and then when you asked to go get ice cream with you and then you offered to take me to a party. When you said that it was a date, it was the best thing I had heard all day. Then when you said that you liked me, I just couldn’t believe my ears.” His eyes have widened but his mouth is clamped shut. I turn and stare at the ground and finish the last bite of my ice cream absentmindedly. He shoves the last bite into his mouth before turning to me. “Hey, look at me Abby.” I lift my eyes slowly and lock them with his. “I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear you say that. But I have one question first?” “Go ahead,” I encourage him. He hesitates before continuing. “Do you believe in love at first sight?” I feel my breath catch. I am quiet for a moment and I can see him getting anxious. “Yeah. I do. Why?” “Good because when I saw you, I fell in love.” I smile at his words. I feel him leaning closer to me so our faces are just inches apart. “You have a little ice cream on your face. Mind if I get it for you?” I nod, not sure what he is going to do. He looks into my eyes before moving closer. He presses his lips gently to mine before moving his tongue around my lips. “There, that’s better.” I smile faintly. Once again he closes the space between us. “May I?” I nod. He wraps his arms around my waist. He turns so he is facing me before pulling me against him. He presses his lips to mine, gently at first. He holds me tighter against him and kisses me with more force. I wrap my hands in his short hair, exactly like I had dreamed of doing. Tyler opens his mouth and moves his tongue around my lips. I open my mouth, giving him permission. Our tongues start to do the tango. After a few more minutes, we pull apart. Both of us breathless and panting heavily. I smile over at Tyler and he smiles back. “So, how important is it to you that we go to that party?” he asks. “Umm, I don’t really care. Why?” “Because, if you are okay with missing it then we could just stay here and hang out. We could talk and get to know each other better. Also, we could kiss more,” he mumbles the last couple of words but I can make them out perfectly. “Okay, let’s do that.” He smiles up at me. We climb off the bench and go to sit on the grass in the shade under a tree. Tyler leans against the tree and then pulls me close to him. I lay on his chest. His slow, even breathing is soothing and I sigh with happiness. He smiles and starts running his hands through my hair. I could lay like this with him forever. ~*~ It has been six years since I met Tyler. We have been dating for those six years ever since that day at the park. I have never met anyone so sweet or loving as Tyler is. He applied to all the same colleges that I did and we ended up going to college together and sharing an apartment. And now, today I am marrying him. Yes, it’s true. Tyler proposed to me eight months ago. It was the best night of my life and now today will be even better. I’m waiting in the back of the church, waiting for the music to play to enter. Finally, I hear that familiar, traditional song. Hear Comes The Bride. I walk down the isle slowly and gracefully with Tyler’s dad. Yes, it is Tyler’s dad not mine. The day after Tyler proposed, my dad was killed over seas in war. That had been the worst day of my life. I’m very sad that he can’t be hear to walk me down the isle but I know that he is watching down on me and is smiling at the fact that his little girl is getting married to the man she loves. I reach Tyler at last and take my spot next to him. Man, if I thought he looked good in jeans and a T-shirt he looks dazzling in a tux. At last, it comes the time for Tyler and I to say, “I do.” After we both recite those two amazing words, he bends down and kisses me passionately. Every time our lips touch, it just gets better and better. As we pull away, we smile at each other. Everyone starts to cheer but I barely hear it because Tyler is bending down to whisper in my ear. “Abby, my love. You have proven everyone who said that love at first sight doesn’t exist wrong. Because the moment I laid eyes on you, I feel in love. I love you, Abby.” I smile at his words. “I love you too, Tyler.” He kisses me again and that is the beginning of the rest of my life. © 2010 Violet MoonAuthor's Note
