Like A Dream

Like A Dream

A Poem by Violet Moon
"

This is just a poem I came up with real quickly the other day about one of my best friends who I used to date but we recently broke up and now he and I are trying to figure things out.

"

Like A Dream

You’re like a dream to me.

When you’re here I’m comforted

And I never want it to end.

Your beautiful images and memories

Play through my head.

I want to hold you close

And never let go.

I can’t help but smile

And feel warm inside.

But then I wake up

And you’re gone.

The images start fade

And I scramble to remember them.

I wish that my eyes were still closed

So the dream would continue.

I long for you to come back to me

But just like a dream,

You are gone and I’m left waiting.

Sorry, if it's not very good. I just kinda came up with the other day and decided to write it down.

This shows deep passion for someone. You want them, but you can't find the right one. All that is left is the dream of one day finding them, or else, they could be right in front of you. This poem shows exactly that, the deep passion to for someone that you may one day find.

This totally just reminded me of the story of my first kiss. I won't go into detail, since even I'm still trying to find the words to put it into story format, but I'll just leave it at the fact that it lasted so little it might've never even happened. If it weren't for my memory there'd be no way of knowing it did.

I get a similar vibe from this, sort of having to make a memory-effort to picture yourself in the situation you still wish you had. A situation that only seems to exist when you close your eyes and imagine it like in a dream, that's only real then.

The emotion aside (which I loved), the line-by-line delivery of single self-contained thoughts makes it so reminescent of dreams, I feel the poem really fulfills its title.

Reminds me of "37 Haiku" by John Ashberry (http://www.terebess.hu/english/haiku/ashbery.html) whenever anybody writes like this, which I also take to doing every once in a while; it's an awesome way to have a stream of consciousness, just put onto paper what's in the back of your mind, have some catharsis.
