Chapter 4

Vitae’s POV

Same time

The black shape dove at us, moving with surprising speed. Deoxys morphed into his defensive form and covered my body with his. I heard a loud yell and could feel intense heat through Deoxys’ body. The black shape had used some form of fire move, I thought as I heard it land heavily on the ground.

Deoxys stood up and turned to the figure. I looked at well. It was a large, black Charizard. This male was shiny, a word used to describe the abnormal coloration of certain Pokémon. He appeared to be a young Charizard, but as I looked closer, I realized he could be even older than Lord Charizard.

"Drake, you blind over-grown lizard! It’s me, Deoxys, and I have Vitae with me," Deoxys yelled at the apparently blind Charizard. The moment he said it, I noticed the thick fog over Drake’s eyes.

"Lord Charizard appointed me to keep intruders out of his home. Next time, tell me before you rush into the island cave."

"Whatever," Deoxys said. He turned to me and said, "Vitae, this is Drake. He is the Keeper of this part of the Grove."

"Hello, Drake," I said to the large reptile.

"My, your voice sounds lovely, Ms. Vitae. It is nice to meet you in person, daughter of Mewtwo. Please, by all means, enter the Dragon’s Lair, home of fifty of the strongest Charizard in the world," Drake looked to the sky. "I must leave. Goodbye and well met." Drake bolted off, becoming a speck in seconds.

"Well, Vitae," Deoxys said, "It is time we entered the home of our leader."

We turned around and walked into the mouth of the cave.

The tunnel went deep under the lake surface. We walked for nearly an hour before I noticed something.

If we were this deep underground, why weren’t we cold? It was actually extremely warm in the tunnels, as if the grey walls were holding back a flood of lava. Which brought up another question: Why is it I could see? It had been dark before, but now it was as if we were outside.

As we turned another corner, we found the cause of the light. Nearly a hundred Charizards flew and relaxed in a giant underground chamber. At the center of the chamber, sitting on a stone pedestal, was Lord Charizard. His tail-flame was even higher than it had been before, nearly a three foot pyre. This room housed Charizard’s Army.

The moment we entered the room, every head turned to the entrance and stared at us, intruders upon their secret holding.

"Lord Deoxys, Lady Vitae. Why have you entered my sacred home?" Charizard said, standing to his full height. Atop the pedestal, he dwarfed all others.

"Vitae wishes to hear about my past. I sought your permission because you were there for much of my first days on earth. And, if you wished, I hoped you could help retell the tale," Deoxys explained.

"Yes, I thought it was time she learned about it," Lord Charizard looked around and spoke loudly, "Gather around, friends and brothers-in-arms. Lord Deoxys and I will tell you the story of his origins."

Gardevor’s POV

Same time

"Mew, do you know what this means?" I asked the pink feline.

Mew put her paws on the mind plate and looked at it. Her soft, short, pink fur glistened with moisture. She carefully looked at every character and picture. She checked and double checked everything.

"It talks about some kind of super-Pokémon. This symbol means forever, but when next to this one, it reads ‘unbeatable’. The top few lines tell of how it never lost a single battle. The next few describe it," Mew stopped and looked at a few lines.

"I’ve never seen these characters before. The first one looks like a picture of emotion and bad. Almost like ‘scared’, but much more intense. Next are two symbols together. ‘Never-ending’ and ‘sleep,’ so that must means it is asleep someplace. But it is the third part that unnerves me. It tells of a giant battle involving this Pokémon and hundreds of legendary Pokémon. It says that the super-Pokémon fell asleep afterwards, never to awaken again. It goes on to describe how a very powerful opponent was killed before the battle ended. The rest of the plate tells where to find the sleeping Pokémon."

"Maybe we should awaken this super-Pokémon and have it fight Mewomega? The plate says it fought against great evil before, so why not now?"

"It actually just says it was involved in some kind of battle. But this Plate still creeps me out. I have no idea what some of those symbols means. If this super-Pokémon was so great, why tell us how to defeat it? But anyways, Lord Charizard would need to give permission before we find this beast. Oh yeah, and this picture…"

"The one of a Mew?"

"That’s just it. This picture isn’t a Mew! Look at its body; it’s too stretched out to be one of my kind. Our picture looks like this," she drew a small picture in the dirt. It was much shorter, with longer toes, than the picture on the Plate. "The one on the Plate is very different from our picture. Matter of fact, I’ve never seen this picture."

"You don’t think it could be…"

"No, Gardevor. It can’t be Mewtwo or Mewomega. This text is far too old. Perhaps it is some subspecies of Mew. Or my ancestors were much taller in ancient times. Just relax. Now, do you want to go search for this super-Pokémon?"

"Yeah. Let’s go straight over to Charizard’s island."
