Mask

Mask

A Poem by Eva

We all have a mask,
the one we show the world.

One that smiles,
when we want to frown...

Laughs,
when all we want to do is cry...

Its the face we show others,
when we say we're fine;
but, on the inside we're falling apart...

But why do we wear this mask?
Because it's easier this way.

It's easier than
explaining what's really wrong.
The thoughts that are racing through our minds.

It's easier than
worrying the ones we love.
We want to be strong for them.

It's easier than
showing weakness.
No one likes to feel vulnerable.

We all have a mask
and we all have our own reasons for wearing them.

A psychologically acute offering here. In fact we all do wear the "masks" of our social faces, for one reason or another. The poet's take is that we don't want to be vulnerable, or that we don't want to explain our thoughts to others. Of course there is also another possibility: if others knew our thoughts, we might get punched out at least once a week. Interesting work here.

I try to understand all kinds of poetry but I always love the straightforward messages the most. This poem is telling it like it is & I love that. Your statements are all so true, so relatable, & stated in a graceful poetic way. There’s no guesswork when reading a poem like this, it’s all pure understanding. You pick some valid reasons for wearing a mask, but the one reason you did not include (which is my reason): not wanting to be rejected or dismissed when we open up & show our pain to another (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves me

the clowns in this poem are huge

E.E. Cummings broke the capital E on his typewriter, so he had to drink Coca Cola and use the little e.

It's a cool poem to look at like if you were in the woods

love

Thank you for your lovely words and your review :)
In life what matters is know yourself, be yourself. self examination is important. we must learn and I have,it really DOES NOT MATTER what other people think of us. do not turn yourself into a victim. Because that will become who you are.

We all have a reason for wearing the mask but a lot time I feel the mask it is wore to say a message.
A symbol of saying see through me and understand me.
It's a good poem to realize about yourself and to question the mask?

Thank you for your creative review. I appreciate hearing from you :)
A great point made with a very adept piece of writing. There are more masks on this site alone than you can shake a stick at!!! lol.... An easy tone and a deliberate message. Nice work here!
