What is the sound that darkness makes?
That drums within my ears to call
for light, and pray that with it takes
the nightmares waiting in the hall.
That lengthens every step I tread
with arcane lights that beckon close.
And lead to places that I dread
with eyes wide shut and comotose
To make me reach for open arms
and holy trust to guide me there.
With ever reaching sweaty palms...
the promise of a teddy bear
To cuddle close, and with its love,
be safe from all the tainted dreams.
That tear me from beneath, above,
and wrap their wings around my screams.
That stifle all humanity,
and stop the questions forming there,
in infinite disparity...
let fall, this little teddy bear.
And so he falls to ground and sighs,
a hopeless death no one can see...
But holds my fear within his eyes
and mouths the words...
Goodbye Bethany.
