Chapter 2A Chapter by VincentRayneThere is much more going on than what is first to be believed. Zack kept
his eyes on the television screen in the living room. He hoped against hope
that everything was okay and his gut feeling was only paranoia playing a part
in his imagination. All of the local News programs were going over the same
thing. There were reports of fires starting all over the place. The police and
fire departments were convinced that there were many arsonists that played a
part in the fires. Zack's sister was taking a nap on the couch next to him. The
program went to a commercial when there was a knock on the door. Zack hoped it was his mother as he
raced to the door. When he opened it he saw that it was his next door neighbor
and his classmate, Sakura. "Oh, Sakura. I wasn't expecting
you. I thought you were at school." Sakura smiled. "Yeah, I was." There was a
grim expression on her face that told Zack there was something wrong. "Wait, did something happen
there?" Sakura's smile faded. "Well, I guess you could say
that who ever were making the fires happen today got to our school."
Zack's heart skipped a beat. "Did anyone get hurt? Are you
okay?" Sakura shook her head. "Nobody was killed, if that is what you
mean. Some people got burnt and some other just inhaled a little smoke. As for
me..." Sakura revealed her left arm she was hiding behind her. There were
several burn marks on it. Zack eyes grew wide and then he
rushed her inside and frantically started searching for medical supplies. "Why didn't you go to the
hospital. You could have been killed and I know they can do more there than I
can do here!" Sakura tapped Zack on the shoulder. "Zack, I'm afraid I have grave news for you." Zack's
heart skipped a beat. He was thinking of his mother and was expecting to hear
bad news about her. Sakura finally decided to speak. "The person that was
causing all of the fires; I ran into him running out the school. That's how I
got this burn on my arm. He seemed to shoot fire right out of his palm. The
thing that scared me the most is," She starred at him with intent eyes.
"that he looked just like you." Zack just stood there trying to put
together what she just told him. "So you're saying there is a
psychotic person out there who looks just like me." "Well, besides his hair being black
and blue instead of silver he's an older mirror image. Right after he shot the
fire at me he just disappeared. I think that there is something weird going on
here.” Zack took out some medicine to help
heal the burn when his sister came from the living room. “Zack, the fires are getting closer.
They will be in our neighborhood soon.” Zack ran his hand through his hair. “Why aren’t the police doing anything?
Is he too fast, sneaky, or smart? He should have been stopped by now.” Sakura
winced as Zack put the medicine on her arm. Lara sat back on the couch and
started flipping through the television programs. It was the same thing on all
of them; an arsonist lighting fires all over the city. Zack came up with an idea that he
kicked himself for not coming up with earlier. He rushed to the phone in the
kitchen and dialed his mother’s cell phone number. His hopes dwindled as the
phone continued to ring. Then he heard his mother’s voice with a lot of noise
in the background. “Zack, are you okay? Is everything
fine?” “Yeah, but from the sound of the
background your in more trouble than I am. What is it all of that?” “Half of the grocery store exploded
before I walked in. I have no idea what happened. Neither does anyone else.
Zack I" What"” Then the sound of static filled the room. The phone dropped from
his hands. Lara’s eyes were wide. © 2010 VincentRayneFeatured Review
