I was in Varanasi, I decided for the Kumbhmela to get over and visited a month later. The reason behind choosing this time was to avoid the huge crowd and also experience the energy and exuberance of the mega event that happened few weeks ago.

Meeting monks is not a big thing in Varanasi. But there are all kinds. We need to be careful with our belongings in some places. I was roaming around in my Tees and Jogger, carrying my notebook and pen to scribble. Varanasi is such a place where we should wander alone. This is not for friendships and conversations. Such is the energy offered by the ancient city.

Near Lakhania Dari I went inside a cave. The cave was so small that we need to crawl inside. There I saw a monk staying silently close to a on a rock: he was still, with eyes closed: I saw a note on the side. It read something like this : "Sit with this man and stay with your eyes open. "

I got curious and did just as I was told. I remember hearing the buzzing of wind. When I regained my consciousness, 3 hours has been passed and I was full of tears, ecstatic. He was there in the same posture, so calm and serene.

I slowly got up, wrote the same note, signed underneath and put a piece of bread for him.

This is a great share. I love how you share a place that's unlike places most people have experienced. I notice that you start out by discussing your own personal travel logistics -- only YOU care about that stuff . . . the reader wants to know about the place. Don't muddle your opening by fretting over why you traveled at a certain time (who cares? it's not even a convincing explanation. why travel when some event is over & done?) Anyhow, don't forget what your piece is about. This piece is about a PLACE -- but you do not describe the place until 3 paragraphs in. I love your cave description & what went on there -- very intriguing & it really grabs the readers' attention. My problem is that you are forgetting the five senses -- what does this cave look like? smell like? sound like? feel like? taste like? Do you get a damp rusty feeling in your mouth, walking in there? SHOW! SHOW! SHOW! Are you standing in a puddle of stalactite drips? SHOW! SHOW! SHOW! Okay I"ll stop my rant now. You have such interesting experiences to share, I just want you to share more FULLY!
