I agree with this whole-heartedly. Mt significant other lives an hour away from me, and yes, we call each other for an hour or two every night, but on weekends we just talk for hours. No phones, no texting, no calling, and no interruptions from social media notifications. Real conversations are what's important, not sitting in front of a screen.
I just watched "Out of Africa" (movie with Robert Redford & Meryl Streep) for the millionth time & there it's acknowledged that in 1915-ish, there wasn't radio or TV or phones . . . people had conversations. Well, even when I grew up in the 1960's, we didn't have phone or TV or radio reception in the boondocks, so we had conversations. Every single time people visited people, the conversations went on all night long. We always stumbled along the next day on a couple hours sleep. This posting is a good impetus for me to think about trying to recapture an all-nighter conversation from my youth (there were dozens!) This is a great thought-provoking post (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
I agree with you. Two people can get to know each other much better through a real conversation than watching a movie or a ball game. I like your line of thought.
