The Cave

The Cave

A Poem by Vilokthoria

I
Fixed on a concept,
trusting what is told,
trusting what you see.
Never asking

How true is it,
the world you see?

Are you caught,
admiring shadows?

II
Loose chains,
but too afraid of the light.
It's dazzling.
Never asking

Is the realisation
worth the pain?

What is beyond all
that you have ever known?

III
Continuing the
everlasting
process, no change.
Only new kitsch.

Nothing truer
than what has been
ever known and done.
Ideas ridiculed.

IV
Some leave the cave,
never come back.

Seeing the colours
for the very first time
the ideas once held:
tossed.

For they found what
makes life precious.

V
Lonely souls,
damed to observe,
for no one
wants to hear
their call to cognition.

Few follow,
soon to ask

Was it worth it?
I was happy once.
