Switch Gender Roles

Switch Gender Roles

A Chapter by Vikrant

Sometimes, I wish we could implement an odd-even law for switching gender roles. On odd days, men would perform the duties of women, and vice versa.

This thought occurred to me when I read the following quote from East of Eden by John Steinbeck:

“What freedom men and women could have, were they not constantly tricked and trapped and enslaved and tortured by their sexuality!”

We celebrate Women’s Day. We have now started celebrating Men’s Day. We even assign gender to God.

I am not here to lecture about gender equality. I am simply trying to make a point: if we free ourselves from the roles that society expects us to play based on our gender, wouldn’t that help us focus our energy on more meaningful things"things that truly matter to us?

If playing a role based on your gender is what matters most to you, that is completely fine. The choice is yours. We get one life, and we all deserve the freedom to choose it for ourselves.
