Blood of the Brother - Prologue

Blood of the Brother - Prologue

A Chapter by Victoria Kaer

The darkness that surrounded him was in no way a detriment to his work this night, in fact, it only enhanced what he wished to accomplish. An eerily evil little smile lifted the corners of his lips as he moved deeper into the catacombs beneath his home, seeking out his goal. When he arrived at his destination, he stopped and stood silent a moment, staring at the tomb.

It held the body of his wife. He didn’t stare because he had loved her deeply and wished to revere her, no; he stared because he knew he was close to achieving something grand. Slowly, he heaved the stone from the top of the casket that held her rotting corpse and took what he needed from within, before entombing her once more and leaving.

Carefully making his way back out of the catacombs, he enclosed himself in his study, locking the door so he wasn’t disturbed by any of his staff. This was too important for some clumsy servant to ruin. He set the small lock of hair down beside the other components for his spell. He rifled through the book until he found the correct enchantment. Slowly his finger ran down the page, checking to be certain he had all that he needed.

Perfect. Now that he was ready, his daughter would pay for the years of embarrassment she has caused him. She would regret all she had done to him. Looking down at the book before him, he began chanting as he mixed the ancient concoction.

When it was completed, he waited, staring in silence at the empty space before him. He was cursing his luck, believing that he’d done something wrong, when there was a bright red flash of light, followed by a deep concussive tone he felt in his chest. The smile left on his face was nothing short of supremely evil as he stared at the teenage boy standing before him.

The boy glanced around briefly, before focusing on him fully. The boy inclined his head showing his obedience to his new master. “What do you wish of me, Father?”

Finally, his daughter would learn she couldn’t disobey him. He threw his head back and laughed loudly.
