Going home

Going home

A Poem by Victoria Lee~

Going Home

The car feels like its flying
yet I am only driving
A trail of dust is all I leave behind of
Forgiving myself for past mistakes
Knowing I will never be as perfect
as I want to be
I can only be me
And that's ok
I am free from those that judge me
and see only what they want to see
Laughing as the mile markers past right by

Leaving seven years of bad luck
looking forward to only what the future brings
Thoughts of bridges left burning
Peace in knowing
I was not the one that started the fire

Knowing, it's ok to walk away
Threw my cards on the table
Listened to my guardian angel,
who told me, Baby, it's time to hit the road

Time to let go of that heavy load
The weight on my shoulder is lifted
As I drive to the only place I'll ever call home

My spirit is soaring
Ghost's from the past
have finally been set free
I am free to be me
I'm singing my song
Leaving the past behind me
I make my final getaway

Keep on driving
Like the Phoenix rising
I'm going home
yeah,  I'm going home

As I read your brave poem I was thinking how it would be a great song. I like how you bolded certain words. I can feel you being set free as the words flow. There are no regrets between the lines--only tons of perfect words that add up to one fantastic piece of writing here! I've always loved the story of the Phoenix making a funeral fire out of the sticks from the past and rising out of it, flying and free. Incredible poem, Victoria Lee!

I love the strength in this piece. Being able to walk away and put it all behind you takes incredible strength and courage. A good lesson for us all! hugs, carole

Sadly poignant, yet ethically and sensitively structured composition. Just the mere fact of being in a relationship means changes are made; compromises agreed! However, to sacrifice one's individuality, is no justification for appeasing a partner hell bent on dominating that relationship. Sometimes the only recourse open is to walk away. When confronted with a difficult decision, I take comfort in theses words;

Ephesians 1:11 (New International Version)

11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything, in conformity with the purpose of his will.

Great poetic and lyrical share!

Very lyrical pace and tempo. Even has a hip gaurdian angel...'Baby it's time to hit the road...'

Positive and inspirational...'like a phoenix rising'.

Great work.

Too bad we can't hear the music that goes with this. That would be cool. In the old days people used evoca to record themselves reading their work with music or whatever. It gave an added dimension to works which were meant to go with music or be spoken word.

This is truly lovely Victoria. I love journey songs and it sounds like you've had quite a journey, but glad that things are improving and the horizon is before holding nothing but promise.
