The Massacre

The Massacre

A Poem by kyrie
"

A pointed piece on an unmerciful war

"

What have we become? Do we really think ourselves so great, so powerful, to the point of having control over human life?

Have we strayed so far from the morals this country was founded on?  Have we no regard life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?  Truly, we have no regard for life, for we allow mass slaughter every day.

So you say it is not alive, that it won’t be until it is out of the womb and its first cries reach your ears.  What, then, does the mother feel as she carries it for nine months?  Do we make light of the pain she suffers while in labor, or the misery of her morning sickness?  When you put your hand to her swollen belly, then, is it not a child kicking, but a formless lump adrift in the fluids of the womb?

So, then, what do you make of those nine months?  Were they in vain?  And what is it that she carries inside of her?   Is what she thought of as life inside of her only a trick of the mind? a useless mold of chemicals that somehow comes to life upon its exit of the womb?  And when a pregnant woman has a miscarriage, what do you say?  What is your explanation?  That the lump disappeared?  That it dissolved before life had a chance to come to it?

Do you brag of advanced technology, even though it defies your killing?  For how is it that the doctor can find a heartbeat when it is still unborn?  How is it possible for the doctor to diagnose the diseases it will have, even before it exits the womb?  How is it that the parents-to-be can expect it to be healthy, or know ahead of time that it will be blind or deaf or have other medical issues based on the doctor’s predictions, for how can you predict the life of something that is dead?

And it is not only technology that detests what you have done.  To back your massacre, you say that it is all a matter of choice.  What choice is there?  To you, only the choice of having a child or not.  Is it better to kill it and save yourself some trouble, or better to let it live, allowing it a chance of hope and a future, of its own pursuit of happiness?  Where, then, does the child have room for choice?

So, then, you finally concede that there is life inside the womb from the start.  Will you still support their senseless killing?  What have you become?  By allowing their slaughter to continue, you join a league of serial killers who proudly make war on the most defenseless form of life: a child.  Have you no shame of what you promote, what you stand for, how far you’ve strayed?

The blood shed by our ancestors was not in vain, for was it not shed for future generations?  And who are we if we are killing that generation?  We are defying the sacred rights they died for by not allowing them on others.  Kansas once bled over an election, but America bleeds over the war it has waged on the unborn.
