Athena

Athena

A Poem by Victor D. Lopez
"

Sonnet

"
Goddess of wisdom, justice, and of law,
Warrior goddess that's nobly much more,
Than what once held the ancient world in awe,
As patron goddess of heroic lore.

From Zeus’s head you sprang armored, full formed,
Among the gods became his favored child,
Warrior goddess who the arts transformed,
Defender of truth, enemy of guile.

You're found in every woman’s heart who knows,
Freedom is not purchased with words of air,
In fertile ashes and blood freedom grows,
The battles fought by women everywhere.

You, paragon of heroes from the start,
Live triumphant in every woman’s heart.
