Here and NowA Poem by Keith JeffriesMoments of ContemplationHere and Now I lay in a darkened room as my mind tossed and turned with a myriad of thoughts which were disjointed. I was fretting about all and sundry from left to right as I thought of wars, unemployment, bills unpaid and the like. A mental whirlpool came into play as night merged into day and confusion held sway. I came to realise that these futile thoughts were of no consequence whatsover. I could do little to effect any change I was powerless, helpless and in despair. Then a moment of revelation took place to create a new and different perspective. The words were crystal clear, Here and now is what is important. My life was laid bare as I looked at my sleeping partner, the walls which surrounded me. My two dogs on their mats beside the bed. What I cherished was here. They were priceless and demanded my love, they had earned my love and mine theirs. I was only empowered to change what was within my grasp. The world would continue without me. I could effect no change. I lay back and pndered on this revelation. It brrought me an inner peace. I was not responsible for the world, who wanted to bomb who or the stock exchange. It was Here and Now where I could exercise my love and concern. Then I fell asleep.
