Betrayal

Betrayal

A Poem by Verneé

I loved you unselfishly

And gave all I could of me

Provided for all

And denied myself

Meanwhile your eyes

Wander to someone else

And so I make excuses

To repel the hurt

I ignore the signs

And pray things will work

But late at night

While I pretend to sleep

There's an aching within

A hole so deep

And I know they say

Forgive and forget

But what of your promise

Your claim to commit

Must I always share

The man I can't trust

Who'd rather give me up

And give in to lust

This piece is powerful and honest. I love the language you use; it expresses your told emotions of hurt and distrust quite well. Also, I love the way that this poem flows from beginning to end through all your different emotions, but it never seems choppy. Wonderful job. Thank you for sharing.
