Seasons

Seasons

A Poem by Verin
"

Different seasons for different stages of life.

"

A man watches as his son grows

He remembers his own childhood;

They play catch in the yard

Green summer grass is all around

The ball going from glove to glove

Almost like a pendulum in a grandfather clock

It’s the first day of school now

The leaves of summer are changing

From their vibrant greens to mixes of red

The boy is in school while the father works

When the bell rings there’s dad by the car

They’re driving home now

It’s the middle of a cold December evening

The teenager’s girlfriend left him at the winter formal

Father watches as his son tries not to cry

The road is covered in black ice

The tears flow freely now

A casket lies open with a man inside

The teenager now feels like a child

Father can’t tell him to be strong

He must do that for himself now

Flowers are in bloom

On a hilltop rests a grave

A man stands over it with a flower in hand

His wife and child stand beside him

They met in spring
