The Price of Fame

The Price of Fame

A Poem by Verin

Haloed by glory

Presented via fanfares

Spokesmen call out your name

Your image projected a thousand feet

Lights, cameras, capture your moments

With words and pixels

Designs created and fostered

Supported through your brilliance

Those in the crowd clamor and fight

Each one dying to be the one

Who makes you a little greater than you already are

They creep on the outskirts of your glow

Feeding off of your name

Not the one you were given

But the one you made

And now that blaze, that driving fire

It wreathes you and bathes you

In a frosty chill

It circles about you

Like a force field it keeps them

The strongest wall you have

Created and furthered by the hands of others

They stand outside of your life

Observing without participation

And so long as they exist it will always be them

Standing in your shadow

And you on top of whatever mountain you’ve built

With air only you can breathe

Alone.
