Counterexample

Counterexample

A Poem by Verdant Cynic

For one named with the name of my love
Whose face blessed me when my eyes close
When the wind rustles in my ears
Everything seems so peaceful
Too peaceful
The question begs
Are you for real?

But even if you're not
Still the night glistens with wonder
As the lights of our beautiful city glimmer on
The young night's breeze on my neck
So still hope lingers in me
That its truly your lips upon mine
When our passion ignites
The searing flames of our bodies
But when the embers die down
My soul earnestly prays
To the God I've long ignored
That still a quiet spark remains
Let us not smolder out
Let me feel your arm around me
As the city lights glow green
Oceanic blue light basking upon us
White streaks of souls whisking us by
But here
Time stops

When the night ceases
And the sun crawls over the mountain
My yearning is to turn to my left
And see you facing me from the right
A foolish sappy poet
My words fails to speak
What my heart longs to convey
My heart sings fiery passion for you
Yet also it gently hums
Hoping for this tender moment

My love, I recall the day we first met
That same place on that night
After you were long gone
If only I spoke
Not a blazing fire I desire
That puffs away into the cold darkness
But a slow burning blaze
Keeping the light alive
Across the darkness of night

You, my love, the one with your struggles
With your battle scars
You, my love, with the wounds you carry
It's you, my love, that I crave to struggle with
You, my love, whom I wish I met sooner
So we could have made more memories
It's you, my love, whom I want to know
But my heart trembles
Even in your worst moment
You never cease to be endearing
Your charms wash me over all the same
And what if this is all a dream
Then I wake up
Hung over
Back to the dreary world
Dusting myself off
Nursing this delightful memory
As I tread forth sadly
In the coming day
My love, make it not so
Let this dream be reality
The years before we met
Let's catch up
With all that we desire
The warmth of acceptance
The thrill of the unknown
The long conversations under the stars

Before this time, it was always the same
But let us be a contradiction
But now, if you were the example
Let me be the counterexample

This reminds me of a rekindled love that lost a space of time together and is anxious to catch up - not sure if that's the intention but it's what resonates with me - I love it :)

Example and counterexample. Cancel each other out or accumulate to make a point. I like the flow of your work. Well done.

About
Writing is my expression. It's the sympathetic ear to my struggles of life. It's the lure in the water, seeking the connection from one who might fish it out. I seek those who can add to my words.. more..
