Madman's Monologue: Sunset

Written by Vember Judgement

The breathtaking sea breeze from the north perfumed the air around me. The setting sun beaming over the beach made filthy by a day of sweat drenched mirth. I watched with no end to my glee as her pink lips pouted. The thought of an end to the lovely day crossing her mind as she kept her sun hat from being stolen to the sky. The hem of her white summer dress gently dancing to the music of the salty air. I felt my heart race as I peered into the velvet green caress of her eyes.

Her pupils whispered fantasies of a dying childhood. A misspent youth of tacky fingernail polish and fingers scraping along rigid, confused n*****s. The nostalgic days when love and lust held hands and skipped along the backwoods of adolescence. But there was still innocence there, I could tell. The soft fleshed maiden trapped in a city of w****s and eager bulls out to pasture. It must have taken so much strength to resist all those natural baser instincts.

Her lips suddenly drew a smile as she saw I was watching her with such want and desire. Her gentle hands twirling a tuft of strawberry blonde hair resting against her rosy cheek. It confused me that she took my awkward staring as some sort of loving compliment. She didn't shudder, she didn't move away, like many of the others I've come across. My body grew warm, my throat a red desert.

I pulled the gun from my pocket . The nickel plating glistened in the remaining sunlight, slightly glaring in my eyes. Her lips parted, attempting to let out a scream I would not allow to escape. Her delicate hands drew up in front of her prone body in an attempt to prevent me from firing. Attempting to stop what I have been lusting for since seeing her standing by the ocean. Her right hand exploded in a mess of flesh as the first bullet pierced the palm and entered her chest.

That wonderful white dress began to stain as a burst of red spew from her chest and down onto the boardwalk. I fired two more rounds as she crumpled to the ground, her eyes a mess of confusion and sadness. I could feel the people around me scatter like the roaches they were, their wails and screams causing goosebumps to rise. I ran off after watching her body lose its warmth and the life drain from her beautiful face. I was forced to take a few more lives as I fled the beach as there were those who fancied themselves knights in shining armor.

To this day I often wonder what her name was, or what her voice would have sounded like carried in that brilliant sea breeze. I deeply regret not allowing her to scream.
