Essences in Space

Essences in Space

A Poem by VelvetPotato

The World drowned, crumbled, and burned -
As I watched the soulless bodies
Decompose in the dirt -
Without a tear or hearse.

Met my Lord, my Savior -
Not sure if it was Jesus,
Rama, or Allah - but true -
Its essence shimmered blue.

Figures indistinguishable and clear
In the cold, silent stratosphere
Earth - immeasurably more beautiful -
Yet sick in Her sabbatical.

No less, the emptiness -
Was intangiblely euphoric.
I felt my friend's heart smile -
My love and mother's, too.

We all became one,
As watercolors on paper do -
Buoyant on the wind of time -
For a month or millennium.

Then the rivers turned crystalline
The coasts forgave - came back -
The seasons in rhythmic cycles
With prides in stride, wolves in pack.

Our essences traveled with lightning speed,
Nostalgic - to home on the plains
The pumpkin pie flavors,
Of gingham and giving thanks.

Then circled the world - like satellites -
And saw everything - simultaneously -
The history of humanity -
Projected over sights.

Inklings of familiar planetary sprinkles
In the Milkyway grew distant -
The Supernova seconds away -
Blasted in stellar, luminous brilliance

We went back to our new habitat
In the holographic sky -
It ended as we thought it would -
But our essences - Alive.

I am unsure about religion, what happens after as in reference to heaven, hell, purgatory or whatever.
But I have always felt sure about the subject of your poem and how you describe it.
Somehow our essences all connect in the afterlife...
we feel others as they leave this earth...but know they are still around, watching us...
loving us...waiting for us...to join them...there is herd immunity, and I imagine Herd Immortality.
great poem...a real thinker...

I felt my soul drift from my body as, I read your lines. I felt alive and loved and hoping to meet my dearly departed. Leaving behind a world inflicted with pain. I'm not one for religion, but what I felt as I read your lines, surely was pleasing.

Has the sound of either a near death experience or a vision induced by LSD. Freud called such mental states "oceanic experiences."
