Washington StateA Poem by VelvetPotato
She thought herself an average girl,
In Merrells with map and Camelbak, But the first walk in Washington State revealed, Through these trees and trunks, she was magic. In fact, she did not tread a step, She levitated leisurely, eagerly ahead, Barefoot, without a jacket or vest, Instead ivory skin under violet silk dress. With a special slant of light in her eyes, Like when Larva becomes Butterfly, She embraced this embellished, green new world, Saturation surged at each twist and curl. The mood was not so somber as the sky, Swollen, matte silver threatening, A Pacific Northwest torrential cry, Kind Hemlocks and Firs were protective. With Pixie perspective, the Greenway came alive, The plants diverse but knew no cliques, As the chlorophyllic moss cuddled rugged rocks, And the Vine Maple pardoned the Hyacinth. Tourmaline boulders married aquamarine falls, Robins mused through malachite, "The Spirit of the Forest is within us all, For fairies who romanticize everyday life." © 2021 VelvetPotato |
