To Be

To Be

A Poem by VelvetPotato

How wonderful it is To See
The Evergreens line hills diagonally
Prickled needles grasp globes of snow
As if it is their duty

The day a'new and clear
Dry yet crisp - the mountain air
The light of lofty sun
Melts fluff to slush in glare

Beige stone mule deer bucks
With the stumped antlers of Spring
Trot timidly near brittle brush
By cedar cabins when sky is dawning

How wonderful it is To Be
Existence - the shrouded stakes
A Mind, a Spirit, and Senses
Primordial tools in the Greatest Escapade

"to be or not to be, that is the question"
and my answer is "to be"---
we are luckier than we realize...there is so much beauty around us to take in, but we destroy
that existence by concentrating on the ugliness of the world...we almost can't escape it.
Your poem is such a moment of pleasure.
thank you for that, Velvet...

This one is full of the exuberance of spring, like one coming out of a long winter of confinement. The last stanza, however, indicates it is also a validation of life itself. What a bracing change. So many poems here make Poe look like Pollyanna.
