Stuck in Fall

Stuck in Fall

A Poem by VelvetPotato

Transitioning is Life
Cool mist to frigid ice
Snow melt to puddle gleams
Flower streams to heat beams

My season's stuck in Fall
Leaves auburn chronically
Never dropped and died for Winter
Never blossomed and alive for Spring

Red and yellow webbed crunches
Beautifully film fragile grass
But a wise Englishman told me
That all things must pass

Ah, that wise Englishman...George Harrison...
I like the near rhyme in this...
one poet once said that to live is to die...but some just refuse to give up, ever, refuse to let go of the tree,
refuse to die for Winter to reengage in Spring.
Oh but the crunch has an insanely hopeful sound if we listen right.

Well, I guess All Things Must Pass isn't "Beatles," but you know what I mean.

I think because of lockdown, fall has never lifted.
In saying that, the sun did shine yesterday as I peeked out my Igloo. The Walrus said hi, and so did I. Was going to write a song about it, but then I realised that wise Englishman had already written it. (Hate that.)

Love the reference to George Harrison. My fav Beatle. Was lucky enough to see them at the Astoria in Finsbury Park when I was 13. Have never forgotten that experience. I can understand you being stuck in Fall. The colours alone are so glorious, but you know spring does it for me. Autumn leads into decay and magical spring is all about rebirth. Sadly all things do pass. Like this poem very much for all sorts of reasons.
