How to be Free

How to be Free

A Poem by VelvetPotato

"How to be Free?"

Ads listen to conversations -
and make eerily relevant recommendations,

Corporations deliver parcels -
of manicured speech that is partial,

Billionaires manipulate the market -
While millenials struggle for
bargains,

Government scolds the working class, "recycle!" -
but Coke and Nestle stand idle,

Social media knows your birthday -
Hometown, vacation, freckled face,

The Justice Guardians of the States -
have faulty morals with wrist-slapped, fatal "mistakes,"

The only choices are red or blue -
But purple is the veiled truth,

Fate is an illusion -
From the Genetics and Experience Collusion,

"How to be Free?"

Close your eyes and live ignorantly.

Thank you, Skinless Frank!
I used to think I was free. You're right back when I was an ignorant child. The more I grew up the more I become aware of everything you mentioned in your poem. This poem made me miss my childhood.

I miss being a child too, socks.
"The only choices are red or blue/ But purple is the veiled truth." As a longtime independent moderate, these lines were music to my ears.

Thank you John!
I close my eyes, A LOT!

The Corporation lines are my favorite..."manicured speech" but it is only "partial"
I think of the reference to corporations and their names in Jefferson Starship's song "We built this City"
Maybe we just need more Rock and Roll...and songs and poems that uncover the veiled truth.
