Assertion to an Acquaintance

Assertion to an Acquaintance

A Poem by VelvetPotato

If I was worth it to you,
You'd call to hear about my moody blues,
You'd listen, and question, and give a care,
Say things aren't so bad, actually, quite fair,
Would prioritize your longest-lasting friendship,
Instead, I'm on the back burner, a thought last minute,
I'll tell you what - that may have worked before,
For a People-Pleaser, anxious to adore,
But over the years, I've grown to realize,
Sometimes it's better to just say Goodbye.
As maturity requests, I'll remain civil,
With the occasional "Hi," but it will take a missile,
To break down the Wall disappointments have built,
A revelation, communication, and maybe some guilt,
For me to consider taking you back,
After all of the times your presence has lacked,
Even though we have always remained different,
The childhood adventures and laughs were worth it,
I make a strong effort to accomodate,
Different personalities, opinions - find a way to relate,
But until pride surrenders, I'm gone, girl,
Good luck with your baby, tattoos, and your world.

this gone girl is so wise...knows when it is time to say goodbye...she's grown up, he hasn't...she cares for more than herself...he has no room...
and when one has disappointed us enough...time passages take us somewhere else.
good write,
j.

This is so f*****g good, I'm gonna die & go to heaven now! This is my life! You nailed it better than I ever have. Here's an example (sorry, I'm a storyteller!) . . . the other day, telling a guy I've known all my life that I started doing my autumn firewood cutting around here now . . . he says: "you should let me cut your wood!" (like I've been stopping him for the past 50 years that I've known him?) Guys are all talk & no action most of the time. I don't give their bullshit any mind & I love seeing a young woman get to that point of realization much earlier than I did! *wink! winK!* Fondly, Margie
