The Man In the Doorway

The Man In the Doorway

A Poem by VelvetKissesXo
"

based on a re-occurring dream..

"
Every night, when I lay my head down to go to sleep,
my eyes shut for one second, then I shake and fear awakes me.
I sit up in my bed and focus on the door in fear,
only to find a man in a long black trench coat in the doorway ever so near.

He wears a black hat that almost touches the top of the door,
He seems to have some bad news to tell me and I can't take it anymore.
When will it be the right time to speak? what does he need to say?
It must be some horrifying news because he never comes during the day.

Maybe he doesn't need to tell me, anything at all.
Perhaps it's just an illusion like a shadow on the wall.

Maybe if I clear my thoughts I could see a brighter day.
Maybe all of my bad thoughts will make the doorway man go away..

Maybe this, maybe that, I just want him gone.
I want him to tell me the news so I can keep moving on.

I'm tired of not getting sleep, I just want to get some rest.
But the night time is the moment where the doorman is at his best.

The man in the doorway has something to say.
And until it comes to pass, he will never go away.

I loved this poem. Your flow was very nice and the ending was perfect. I love how you captured the feeling of anxiety that so many of us often feel. Nice job.

I love the use of symbolism and archetype of this poem. The mystery of this figure had me intrigued. It's like a close look into the works of Jung. I enjoyed it. It gave me chills....but as a lover of the anti-hero...I'd like to hope that he would end up saving the day....
