A Chapter by Var

Ugh my head...
Where... Where the f**k am I?
What was I doing...?
I don't remember anything from the last 3 days...

After Varren's eyes adjusted to ther darkness of the room he was inside of, he noticed that it was similar to a makeshift prison cell. He tried to stand up, but the pain in his leg prevented him from doing so.

He took a look at the source of pain and saw a bleeding hole. Probably with a bullet still stuck inside the flesh. He checked every one of his coat pockets and found a pack of matches, a hip flask, and a small blade hidden inside. To his surprise, his weapon holster still had a revolver in it.

"This should be enough to patch myself up", said to himself Varren as he took hip flask and took a big slurp from it.

Inside the flask was whiskey which helped him numb his current pain and the pain he was soon to feel. He plunged the knife in his wound with exceptional care not to make it worse than it already was. The pain was unbearable but if he wanted to stop the bleeding. There was no other way.

After a few tries, he digs up the bullet and proceeds to rip part of his shirt and bandage the wound to prevent any bleeding. Standing up wasn't any easier, but at least it was less painful to move around. He walked towards the door made of iron bars and tried opening it.
The second he touched, the door broke from the hinges and dropped on the floor.

He went outside the cell and found himself in something like an abandoned mining shaft. The tunnel was filled with the smell of blood and rotten meat. Varren took out the revolver from his holster and checks how many bullets he has inside the chamber.

"6 chances, eh? Not too shabby", he said as he went deeper inside the cave, without making any sudden noises to not give out his position to someone that could be still there.

The further he went in, the smell of blood got more and more intense until he found one of the corpses. The first thing he noticed was the wound the corpse had, it was similar to a bite, a really big bite. Something that killed him wasn't a human or a normal animal. The second thing he noticed was the unusual clothing the man was wearing, it was nothing close to modern clothes.

"Just where the f**k am I?", said Varren as he scratched the back of his head.

Suddenly he felt something breathing on the back of his neck. He violently turned around, pointing his revolver at the face of the monster that probably killed the miners. Before he could shoot the monster, it grabbed his arm holding the gun and threw Varren on the ground with its body mass. The monster's face got closer and closer to Varren's face and made a loud roar, covering his face in saliva and god knows what more.

After that monster tried to go for a piece of Varren's neck, Varren's second arm, luckily, wasn't being held by the monster, so he went for the knife he still had in his pocket and plunged it inside the monster's eye.

The monster backed off from Varren as it started to roar in pain, covering its face. Varren took this opportunity, grabbed the pistol out of the ground and started running.

The head start he bought himself to run away, especially with the wounded leg of his, wasn't enough. He could hear that the monster was chasing him and it getting closer by every second.

Suddenly, he heard an ominous, silent voice coming out of the different cave shaft saying "Come here..."

With nothing to lose, he ran to that direction with the last drop of stamina he had until the shocking truth hit him in the face. It was so dark that he didn't see the dead end, he smashed his face on the wall, and fell on the ground.

"Are you f****n kidding me?! Damn my nose...", said Varren loudly as he tried to get up.

But when he was getting up, he noticed that the monster is a couple of meters away from him, looking exceptionally angry.

"Guess I am fuc...", before he could finish his sentence, the ground under him broke, making him fall even deeper in the cave.
