When Master Calls: Chapter 8A Chapter by Varissa DarkeClarissa's POV: I paced the dusty cell. I thught bck to the first time I was in this cell, and couldn't help but smile. THose were such happier days. Before Markus started pretending to be a stuck up snob for his parents. The days he loved me and I loved him. Well, I actually still love him. I wonder if he loves me still...I can't tell. The door swung open and my heart began to flutter rapidly. Lady Holloway entered. I stood tall and strong as she opened the cell door and silently took me by the arms and led me out of the dungeon. I stood like a stone on the outside, but on the inside, I couldn't feel as brave as my father must have been when he faced death. I don't know if death shall be my punishment. I hope not. But maybe death would be better than the life I'm living now. No. Definitely not. I've heard tales from servants who come from other castles. My life is easy compared to theirs. I should have felt lucky. But I took it for granted. All I wanted was to be back in the servant's quarters with Hanna's arms wrapped around me after a long night of work. My eyes slowly falling shut until I drift off into a peacful sleep. Would I ever have that again? ~~~~~~~~~~ Lady Holloway had told me to keep my head down once we reached the throne room. But of course I didn't obey that and never once lowered my head, even when my neck grew sore. "Clarissa." Master Holloway's voice bellowed. "You asaulted a member of the royal family. You do understand that your actions result in severe punishment, right?" I nodded accepting whatever punishment were coming my way. "Do you not even have a bit of regret for what you've done?" I shook my head. That caused Master Holloway to snarl. "I no longer regret our decision on your punishment." He growled. "This filthy servant has been sentenced to death for her actions against Sir Markus Holloway." I closed my eyes, and my head finally lowered. But my had wasn't lowered for long. A shout came from the back of the room. "No!!" The voice yelled. My head quickly snapped up. "Markus?" The sound came out as a faint whisper. Markus, who'd just burst through the doors in time to hear the sentence, hardly able to walk, was limping as fast as he could on the double canes to the front of the room. "Please Father. No." Master Holloway stood, absolutely dumfounded. "What?" My eyes met with Mark's. I smiled at him, and lifted my arms so my sleeves would fall down and the bracelet Markus had given me would be revealed. Hhe smiled back, and his smile widened when he saw the bracelet. I was absolutely confused. Confused, but happy. © 2010 Varissa Darke |
