When Master Calls: Chapter 4A Chapter by Varissa DarkeClarissa is a sevant for the famous Holloway family. When she and their son develope a secret romance, all hell breaks loose. Even worse, the son has gained a new deep, dark, and mysterious secretClarissa's POV: "Ah. There you are Clare!" I turned to from my spot on the staircase in the throne room and saw Markus walking my way. "Don't you think you should be working instead of just sitting around?" He said in a stern voice. I frowned at him. "Come on. It's terrible enough that your mother is finally treating me as a servant, now must you?" He began to laugh. "Of course not. You're my best friend. I could never see you as a servant." I smiled and wrapped my arm around him in a hug. "Thanks." I said quietly. A lot has grown since I first met Markus. His hair being one thing. It's grown to the center of his back now. Our friendship has grown, though it is a secret to his parents, it's still there. Markus in general has grown. He's taller, more mature, and a million times more handsome. "Hey, I got you something." He began to grab something that had been tucked away in his shirt. "Oh come on now. You know you didn't have to do that." He grinned and finally pulled out a slim black box. "It's your 15th birthday!" He exclaimed. "So far that's been my favorite birthday. I was hoping it could be yours also. Until next year's birthday, that is" I smiled remembering everything that went on that night. Somewhere around 2:00 A.M., I had snuck out of the servant's quarters and met up with Markus at the end of the hall. We had silently tiptoed around the castle, trying not to wake any of the sleeping guards or make ourselves noticed to the few who had managed to keep their eyes open. Then we slid out one of the windows near the bottom level of the castle and made it onto a leveled out roof. We stayed out until 4:00, just sitting out on the roof talking. It was the most fun I'd had in my thirteen years, and probably still is now that I'm fifteen. I broke out of my flashback and opened up the little box. "Wow. It's amazing!" I exclaimed as I pulled out a bracelet, with small, round, blue and green glass beads strung onto it with silver charms. I admired every charm. There was a lily, a dove, a rose, and then a heart, all equally seperated and equally beautiful. "Thank you so much!" I told him as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "You know, I think we should meet up again like we did my birthday. We need to start doing that every year." I nodded and slid the bracelet onto my wrist. ~~~~~~~~~~ I slowly tiptoed out of the servant's quarters at what I guess was somewhere near to, like Markus had instructed. I made my feet move as lightly and silently as possible down to the other side of the hall, where Markus had asked to move his quarters to sometime last year so we could see each other more. He was waiting for me. "Ready?" He asked. I nodded and took his outreached hand. We slowly creaked open a door at the end of the hall that led to the second level of the castle. We glanced around the room, checking to see which guards were awake, so we could be sure to avoid them. When we had our route mapped out in our minds, we made our move down a small staircase and began the hardest part of the journey. We were as silent as possible but we still feared that it wasn't silent enugh. Being caught could mean so much. Maybe possible execution for me, knowing that Master is so cruel to his servants. If not execution, I'll most likely never be able to be anywhere near Markus again. I was so lost in thought, I hadn't realized we were to the window already. "The route seemed a lot shorter this time." Markus whispered. "I guess we've just gotten faster or more gaurds are sleeping." I said. Markus slowly pushed the window out and helped me out asnd onto the roof and then followed. We sat down beside each other with our hands still grasped together. For a while we just gazed out to the stars and discussed things like Heaven and the world outside the kingdom. Markus has rarely been outside the castle walls, but he told me about the places he had been. I told him about how I had always dreamed about escaping from the castle and living in a kingdom as far away from here as possible, until I met him. Then, the only place I wanted to be was with him. I couldn't believe I had said it afterwards though, being that I had just practically let my feelings about slup. But he just continued to smile and watch me. A breeze flew by and blew his hair about. It made my heart practically melt, seeing his perfection in full bloom like that. I tried to look away back into the night sky, but couldn't pull my gaze away. He suddenly pulled his hand out of the grasp of mine and lifted it to my cheek. He then slid it down to the my chin and pulled my face in close to his. He slowly began to press his lips to mine. My heart skipped a million beats. It pounded fiercly in my chest, and I'm sure he could feel it. I grabbed the back of his head and pulled him in even closer. But then the window suddenly swung open and with a gasp, an outreached hand grabbed Markus' collar and pulled him back into the castle, then the other hand grabbed my collar and pulled me in along with him. I gazed up and saw the horrified face of Lady Holloway. Any time in the past, and I may have been able to get away with this. But I've now lost her pity and she will most likely tell the king. There goes my head. © 2010 Varissa DarkeAuthor's Note
