When Master Calls: Chapter 3A Chapter by Varissa DarkeClarissa is a sevant for the famous Holloway family. When she and their son develope a secret romance, all hell breaks loose. Even worse, the son has gained a new dark and mysterious secret.Clarissa's POV: I keep remembering that day. The memory of watching my father hold his chin up and smile, even as that large, terrible knife, or whatever you would call that thing, was brought right upon his neck, completely removing his head. They had made me watch the entire execution, along with all the servants. To remind them of what's at cost for disobeying their laws. It had scarred me for life, and at only the age of three, that was a lot of life left to be scarred. I shook the memory from my head and continued to scrub the floors of the throne room. Footsteps made themselves heard near me. "What's your name?" I slowly looked up. Markus, Master's son stood over me. "Cl-cl-clarissa." I stuttered, rather nervous. "I'm Markus." He knelt down beside me. "How old are you?" It made my heart skip a few beats, to have him so close to me. He was...beautiful. He had wavy brown hair that fell down on top of his shoulders. His hair was a bit wind-tangled at that moment, causing it to fall into his amazing bright green eyes. "Eleven." I said quietly. He smiled. His teeth were perfectly white and lined in beautifully straight rows. "I'm thirteen. I'm glad there's someone around my age at the castle! It's been so dull here all my life. Why have I not seen you around before?" Still nervous, I tucked a piece of loose hair behind my ear before I spoke. "Well, somehow I've managed to avoid being put to work all my life. I think your mother had something to do with that. But, she's finally decided I'm old enough to do a little of something around the castle." My voice was beginning to grow a little louder, but my stomach still continued to turn. "Would you like to go play around the castle for a while?" He asked. I glanced over at my water bucket. "I don't really think your father would like that." He opened his mouth but was interupted by his mother's call. "Oh. My mother is calling. I must go, but I hope to see you again." At first, I just nodded, but then the butterflies in my stomach made me smile sweetly and say, "I'd like that. Goodbye Markus." He turned back around. His eyes were soft. "Goodbye Clarissa." I continued to grin to myself as I went back to work scrubbing the floors. My stomach finally began to calm down. I couldn't wait to tell Hanna. Hanna has helped me through so much after my father's death. I remember talking to her the night he was taken away, she had promised to take care of me and has so far kept that promise. ~~~~~~~~~~ "Hanna." I began. She held my hands tightly in hers. "I met Markus today." She smiled. "Really? What did you think?" I brought my feet off the floor and onto my bed. "He was really nice. He invited me to play around the castle with him." She cocked her head to the side. "Really? And did you?"The wrinkles on her forehead were smushed together from her expression. "Well, Lady Holloway called him away before we could, but I really wanted to." "You've got yerself a bit of a crush, don't you?" I grinned shyly. "Yes. He's a very handsome boy, and he's so sweet and nice, and everything!" Hanna grinned and layed back onto the bed. "That's cute. But you know what his father would be thinkin' about that." I sighed. "Yes, but a young girl can dream. You've told me that a million times." © 2010 Varissa Darke |
