A Short Intersection

A Short Intersection

A Story by Mikael Malmberg

I was doing what I always did when I was alone: surfing the web. Watching videos, writing comments and playing the guitar, sometimes all at once. I sat down to watch a show of George Carlin's from YouTube: it was called "Life is Worth Losing".

A passing fancy took me over; I went over to Facebook, all the while listening to the old man talk. I saw a couple of new updates. A friend of mine had just posted a new picture of himself. Looking all classy, he's outside with his hair done well, fit and well-off as it seemed. Over 50 likes and several dozen comments decorated the status update.

I asked myself why this wasn't the case with me. In the background, ol' George was yelling something. Somehow, by sheer accident or twist of fate, the words "anal intercourse!" break through my stream of consciousness. I burst to cynical, bitter laughter. One last dazzling thought wanders into my consciousness like a blazing comet.

'Though really, it's probably because I never post any selfies.'

You sound a lot like me--surfing the web, writing comments and playing guitar. No FB, though. (I couldn't take running with the mainstream.) And those selfies--no way, man.
