Nameless

Nameless

A Story by Vanessa

the feckless lamp suspended over the tired cafe. scattering people from behing awoke the tired girl, took her into a world she didn't want to be in; a world of lonliness. the day, on the contrary, was a nice, changing day of angry clouds and cool, damp winter rain.
she pulled the heavy flea market caot tightly over her shoulders. the 1940s look of it made her smile, she recalled when she bought it. the nameless victims ran out into the street to face the rain. but not her. she walked into the dropplets like it was her heaven, her kingdome. the pelletes were cool on her face. 4 degrees less and it could have been snow.
the streets smelled of oil, as they always did. the thick, brown smoke rolled, unfolded from the towering factories around her. she nestled her books within the safety of her purse. the day was not to end too soon. this, she supposed, was good. a break was needed.... soon. a break away from the city, away from the babbling people that knew her as nameless. away.
the green was breathtaking, as usual. it was small at first, but a small forgotten partof the city. but it was more than that.... to her. although it was forgotten at most, this she thought was best, an innocuous thing to occur. she could have it unruined by the years of careless brains of filth. until.... one day someone could come to realize the penchant that earth desires: tranquil balance. she thought she stood alone in this. she thought.
the branches scratched at her uncovered shins. this, she was used to. the darkness grew acute for a moment and then revealed explicit sunlight that filled all of her creases. and just through the heavy woods, a valley far and deep. it was almost scary to let this valley engulf her, for it was some 8 acres wide. but that was just the thing to get from such a place. the adreniline of a huge, steep valley to take her on a ride most like to.... nothing at all; abberant!!
she ran for some time. until she came to a huge, green/gold hill, some 50 people high. the thin brown of her flimsy shoes protested with the hard, stiff of the rock she soon came to. it was a rock like no other, not even a rock. it extended out of the grass, mixing at some places. her tired feet grabbed at the near-steady ground. she braced herself and sat calkmy at the peek. the veiw made her heart skip a beat, skip two. once she had her things out she just tossed them aside anyhow; thismarvelous thing just couldn't seize to beguile her. the cold breeze sent tremours down her spine and she loved it. the sun was there and yet the coolnesswouldn't leave. she was glad. the silence set in and all that was left was the trees miles bellow, blowing in the breeze.
but soon, when she couldn't have been more tranquil, a noise, a NEW noise arose. just when she thought it had gone and left her with some feeling in her face, it returned.... ghastly. she turned. the girl shook as the tall leanient boy stood before her. she wanted to scream for here she was alone, miles from human existance. she nearly ran. something....someting stopped her.
the boy had his eyes possib;y wider than hers, as if SHE was an intruder. he studdered and stagered back.
"i'm.... " his voice was like satine and the girl's outter visage changed from frightened to marveled, curious.
"I'm sorry", he tried again, still shaking, alarmed. "You.... you've come here before." he was almost still, but small shakes still surged hrough his pale, lanky arms. he went on. "I've come here before. and here, this same spot, you sat here. i...." he stopped and tried to catch his breath. "i just.... left because i didn't want you to be frightened. like you are now." he looked down and when she'd stood, he was alarmed. the girl stammered. "i'm.... i'm not frightened. who are you??" she was almost okay.
he swallowed, his adam's apple surging.
"i.... like i said i have come here before and you were here. i.... i saw you one day and i thought of saying hello, but i thought of it to be odd.... a stranger speaking to someone he didn't know. but i suppose.... that's how one makes friends."
the girl was fine now, she could breath. she only hoped to calm him. "wh-what's your name??"
the boy looked up, alarmed at the sudden interest. "Vil." it was almost a whisper. the two stood their ground, moving no more than called for. it seemed a pedantic fear was shared with the two.
"Emerson." she said, louder than he. "My name's Emerson."
he smiled breifly, nervously, swallowing hard once more.
"Oh." he was stiff with nerves. she was the first to break the bundle of nerves. her scrawny knes wobbled to the edge of the hill, towering over the veiw miles bellow. she sat, risking what she didn't care to lose.
"I've always liked it up here." her voice quivered still, but she showed no fear to speak. he remained still in his place of stiff, shaking replies.
"Oh. ah-me too." he studdered.
the girl looked to the boy and pulled up one side of her mouth in attempt to smile. it wasn't hard. he was tall, taller than her she thought. his hair was almost touching his shoulders and topped with a brown pauper hat. in the cold of the weather, his neck was warmed by a brown-as-well scarf. the rest was a mixture of some dazzling browns as well. the girl noiced it went lovely with his eyes. she turned away, hoping her admiration wasn't too apparent. she stared out into the greens and browns bellow her. the scent was that of untouched territory of the one and only mother earth.a nice wind came blowing her hair behind her as if she were flying it had grown silent after that. she thought she was alone....
the brush of his flesh on hers sent some sort of electric friction through her. her heart beat more than necessary. his leg just inches from hers, he sat beside her. his voice, renewed with sudden false-confidence, "I used to come here all the time." he didn't look at her, not once.
"AND-" her voice was silent and weak, she tried to speak up. "you stopped.... because of me??" she was appaulled, and shamefull.
she heard his breath suddenly quicken. "Well, i thought you would.... stop coming." his eyes were in the distance and he didn't make eye contact.
"Oh." hereyes met the ground and she gave up trying to look at him.
"But," his voice weak, attempting to steady, he pulled his eyes to hers. she couldn't breathe, she thought she'd die.... it was amazing, his gaze on her.... she really had to come to see she was alive. his face faced hers, they stared, bith feeling they'd explode. "maybe next time i come here, tomorrow.... you'll be here."

the gaze remained.

Author's Note

Vanessa
g=Gosh, the grammar is terrible. But, when I write it, I was in no mood to bother. It was just a quick thing to cheer up a friend. Tell me how it turned out.
