Apocalypse

Apocalypse

A Story by WeaveYourWebOfLies

Fifteen years ago I was born in the bustling city of New York in the height of the world. Everything was perfect…so perfect. No wars, no poverty, and no crime. Blissfully perfect. It was inevitable that something would happen that would shatter the perfection.
When that something came no one was prepared. They came in the thousands, destroying anything and everything that was in their way with no reason except to kill and destroy. These beings became known as Destroyers, humans that weren’t exactly human. Their strength was incredible and nothing could match their speed and the way they hid, blending into society looking like anyone on the street. Destroyers were monsters and they wanted nothing but to wipe out everything.
The US was frazzled, not sure where to turn and what to do. After the first week the president had been killed and the military was broken down until it was nothing but a rag tag group of trigger hungry fools. The world was doomed when the Destroyers spread to Africa, Europe, China…the world was swallowed. Population dwindled and the human race seemed to disappear.
Yet through all of this some lived. I am one of them. At only six months old I was able to escape. My parents were dead and it was just me and my brother Shawn. He took me to a place, underground. A underground tunnel system built in the twenties. It was a city under New York. It hadn’t been used until now when the few people left in the city found it.
I grew up in these tunnels with the rules that every child now knows. You don’t leave the tunnels. Never, ever. If you did, you would die. Food was to be rationed fairly and if you stole it, you would be punished. Water was to be used sparsely and any clean water was found, it was to be reported to the Generals of the tunnels. I abided these laws and never strayed from them. It was branded into our minds with fear because that’s all we knew, fear.
When I turned ten my brother was killed in a battle with Destroyers when he and a group of his unit left the tunnels to find food. I was alone and have been ever since. I’m fifteen now and I am one of the Generals of the New York Tunnels. Luke, who is somewhere around sixteen, is the other General. I’ve been outside and I’ve seen the world. I know how it is. I’ve battled Destroyers and somehow have escaped.
What’s left of the people of New York are teenagers. No one lives past twenty for very long and its extremely rare to find someone that’s over thirty. All I have is my group of scared teenagers and dirty old tunnels that snake under one of the greatest cities of the Old World. My name is Leonora and I am a General of the New York Confederates. This is my story, this is my life.

A very good start. Had great possibilities. A few years in the past. We had a bird flu. Killed the old people only. We lost a thousand people in Michigan. I look forward to see where you are taking this tale. A excellent introduction.
