Countertop Confessions

Countertop Confessions

A Story by Val
"

A quick glance at a narrow countertop reveals misjudged purpose.

"
Funny how she thought this sliver of a countertop would remain uncluttered. It's sandwiched between the main counter and some white cabinets, mimicing a short-order-cook window. According to her 11 year old son, his food should be served on this make shift window ledge.

Placing his food on that narrow strip of black, glossy countertop is downright satisfying! The simple idea chalked ghost tallies in her mind each time a plate clinked against that black, glass-like countertop.

The countertop confided in simple pleasures then...purpose. It took an uncomplicated idea and created ambition, created resolve, created prospect.

Every once in a while, that ambition, resolve and prospect, will transform into a catch-all, where clutter accumulates and whispers to be cleared.

It is surprising how much that sliver of countertop will maintain. It reveals the frenzy of rushing and the diligence of remaining.
