She Said.

She Said.

A Story by Jim

The covers were ruffled, messed and strewn. Pillows lay there and here.

"Do you believe in love?" she said.

He just closed his eyes and smiled. He knows he does, she does also. She just wants to hear it again. It makes her smile, thats all he needs in the end.

"Of course..." was all he said.

She laid her head back, resting it against his shoulder. Her hair is always the best thing about her laying on him, he loves the way it feels. So whispy, it reminds him of dreams. All it takes is for her to turn and he falls in love with her all over again. She means the world to him. Turning, he watches her, she just lays there, peaceful, like a fairy tail. Love song were never so true, they never told him of this.

"Baby..." she says with her eyes closed. He is still watching her lay there.

"Baby..." her eyes opening.

"Yes?"

"How much do you love me?" Her eyes are watching his, seeing his heart on his sleeve. She closes her eyes again, feeling his heartbeat in his chest.

"You know how much I love you, nothing in the world means as much to me as you." He smiles again, knowing the answer she wants, he just loves hearing her ask it.

"Tell me again, tell me how much you love me..." Listenning to the rhythmn of his heart. It tells a story all its own, she knows the story well, for it resides in hers also.

"I love you forever..."

"Only forever?"

"Forever and always."

They lay there for what seems can't be long enough. It all ends to soon. The sun shining bright through the blinds tell them it's time. They kiss....

She opens her eyes, still lying in her bed. No blinds, no tangled masses of blankets. She sighs. Was he even here? Was he real?

He rolls to his side, putting his arm across her, but she isn't there. His eyes slowly open. No blankets messed for two, no matching heartbeats heard.

They look down at the pillows beside them, the pillow cases messed and tangled.
