My Path

My Path

A Poem by ~Logic of the Valar~
"

The first poem I have written in over 4 years. Man, I'm rusty.

"

In the myriad paths of my reality,

Twisting, turning, ending, diverging, I saw a light

Golden and soft, bright and warm.

I turned toward that light and forsook the Path I tread upon.

Alas! The closer I came to those beams of light

reaching their arms to me, the less inviting they seemed.

Golden turned to glare,

Soft to harsh.

Bright went to blinding,

Warm to stifling.

I turned from this imperfect mirror of my soul,

and learned.

I searched for day unnumbered and found my Path once more.

I tread down the trails, happily alone in the glow of my own thoughts.

Lo, I came upon a show light.

Dark and brooding, flickering and faint.

I left my path yet again, and rushed to the shadow.

I held it in my arms and shared with it all I am, asking nothing back.

Slowly it changed.

Dark turned to light,

Brooding to thoughtful.

Flickering went to steady,

Faint became strong.

I turned from this imperfect mirror of my soul,

and learned.

I found my Path, easily this time.

I tread down the trails, happily alone in the glow of my own thoughts.

I travelled a while and met a wonderous light;

so beautiful, it hurt to look upon it.

My own glow was utterly consumed by its magnificence.

Slowly I changed.

Strength turned stronger,

Indistinct to crystal,

Glow went to shine,

Sporatic became refined.

I turned from this beautiful but imperfect mirror of my soul,

and learned.

I continued on my Path, for indeed I never left.

I walked eternally, encountering lights of infinite variety.

They each touched and changed me, as I touched and changed them.

I came upon a wooded glen bereft of any lights, save one.

It was myself! My perfect mirror.

My surprise reflected its surprise, my love its love.

My own doubt I saw in his eyes, my private troubles seen in his motions.

I reached out a shaking hand and met a trembling hand in return.

I learned.

I travel again on my Path,

happily mingling my thoughts with those of my mirror.

I like the way it flowed going from one theme to another, but keeping with the original thought. Good job!!!

I agree with Kuro Kaji, this is a likable work. As for your skills, you can walk the path of the formal or go your own way. You are the artist, the words flow from you and the style is yours. Rhythm is really not my style, I've tried yet it never comes to me. Keep writing, your form and style will come to you and we are here to help.

I liked it, it shows the many paths a person can walk down and how they can always find the right one

Well, its probably the best poem I've written so far, which makes me rather uncertain as to my poetic skills. Maybe I should try working out a set rhythm.
