Of cats and philosophers

Of cats and philosophers

A Poem by Valerie Jones

“The miseries of the hit et nunc

and the sense of the absurd

are the best antidote for timor mortis.

All sentiment acts like a boomerang,

like a javelin into the sun

against the despairing cosmic mystery.

Nothing can better cure

the anther anthropocentrism

- inspirer of all our ills –

than to cast ourselves

into the infinitely large

or the infinitely small.”

And the cat slowly licks

- without discriminating -

his face and his butt,

while the decomposing - meat,

notion and memorabilia

sit on his bowl inter alia.

Miss Jones, I like this is a lot. I rarely say that and when I do I mean it. This poem has a rare mix of intellect and beauty. It flows well and is thoughtful. I am a philosopher too, so I may be biased, but regardless, it rocks. Very well done. Sorry for the delay, I'm not at this site often. I got your note and will look at it, but if it is for a contest or a writing group I will probably not being able to join in as I am not often here and don't check mail regularly. I look forward to reading more of your work soon. Take care

Do I sense the fair-haired lady waxing politico? In any case I like this.
