    "One of Life's Castaways"

 

She had learned the cost of his pain

   and rejection, so long ago.

But...it would return and enter her world;

   as cold as winters...falling snow.

Soon...fresh hurt would come as...

   she struggled to be;

A weak floundering ship upon a stormy

   wind tossed sea.

For pain and loss...linger inside, and,

   rejection...lies in the heart.

As the mind asks...why can't life's

   castaways...have a new start?

awww Val, this is a heartfelt poem for sure. The pain of rejection can and will linger for as long as we allow it too. Give it an inch and it will soon crowd out all other emotions, and tarnish all furture relationships tht may begin. Sometimes we need to wrap ourselfs into a cocoon until all that pain has liquified and disipated from our of our hearts. Thus we turn the memory of it into a lesson well learned then pick up the pieced of our shattered heart and cautiously move forward to love again. Being able to get past that fear of rejection is hard but not impossible. For me, it is being able to reach out and give love, freely and without expecting it to be retuned or even if it is rejected, being able to give love helps to overcome that sting of rejection. Nice poem to ponder, my friend.
