"The Pain of Letting Go"

"The Pain of Letting Go"

A Poem by Valentine
"

after watching my sister so ill with cancer;;

"

   " The Pain of Letting Go "

God...please teach me how to say...goodbye,
To just let go, and not to cry.
Or...just accept, "You" take away!
But "hello" will be said...a later day.

Lord...teach me how to set love free;
As it flies to YOU...and away from me.
Let a smile soon come...to this face,
And all of these tears...please erase.

Let me know when...to say "so long."
To completely forgive, each single wrong.
I know some illnesses...come to stay,
And no matter what..won't go away!

Jesus...it hurts too much each single time;
That You take to Yourself...a love of mine.
It is to hard...to just let them go,
When pain is deep and I love them so.

God...can't You wait...just a little bit longer,
Let them become, a whole lot stronger.
Come back when...they are ninety or so;
Perhaps then...I can bear to let them go.

God please. do not take this one...away from me,
Tears are blinding...and I just cannot see;
Why they have to go so young with YOU?
Wouldn't an old bush or a oak tree do?

Lord, teach me how...to just let go;
For that is one thing, this heart doesn't know.
Please wipe my tears, and let a smile...be
On my face, as...You take another love from me.

    Written when my beloved sister Lauretha
     was dying from non-Hodgskins Lymphoma.
    Sis, I love and miss you so much...save a
    seat next to you...for me..             Valentine

A cry from the heart... and well articulated. It's a question that we all ask when we lose a loved one. Why now, why them? Life is difficult enough without the massive grief associated with the loss of those dear to us. But as they say, it's all part of life's rich pattern - (whoever wrote that had never experienced real grief!)
No doubt the reasons for all this will become clear to us when we cross over ourselves... and if we don't, well, we won't have to worry about it. Good write, Kathie.
David.
PS - V.4 line 3 - 'too' hard V.6 line 4 - 'an' oak tree

Oh Dearest One!
How much you struggled with the loss of your sister! I am sure her memory is still so alive in your heart as you have described so very much anguish in this write. Though we know our departed loved ones are in a better place, we are still left here in the "now" of life and it can hurt so much as we grieve for them!!
We do cry out........"Lord teach me how"!!!
Blessings for you!
With love,
Sheila
