"In Hiding"

"In Hiding"

A Poem by Valentine

"In Hiding"

When seeing a bright smile, upon a face,
None picture the pain...it may erase.
While some cry...and cheeks may stain...
Others store emotions...knowing naught is gained.

Look not at the smile, but deep in the eyes,
The mind may find..a startling surprise,
For...the outside appears happy and well...
But...in the eyes, pain will surface occasionally and tell.

Do not be blinded, by a smile..upon a face.
On the inside,"pain" may need to be...erased.
Take the time with all, to kindly share...
For a smile may be showing...while pain...is there.

We do learn to hide sadness. Maybe a good thing.
"Do not be blinded, by a smile..upon a face.
On the inside,"pain" may need to be...erased.
Take the time with all, to kindly share...
For a smile may be showing...while pain...is there."
Many people live with hurt and sadness. Must find more worthwhile goals and dreams.Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry dear friend.

Many thanks for reading this. Kathie
often we wear a smile when inside we feel only pain and loss, your poem tells us extremely well how we hide feelings from view in times of suffering, thank you Kathie :)

You're welcome :)
This makes me think of a close friend of mine. It's obvious they are in immense pain inside, but they try to hide it through various means. I used to be the one that they could confide in, but it seems that I'm losing my impact with them. I know from experience that if you leave it all inside, it will eat away at you until you find some way to let it out. This is a very true and greatly executed piece.

hell I know it is hard to be able to read people
Kathie the tears of a clown (was it Andy Williams who sang that), was called to mind here. I personally know 3 men - not known to each other as far as Im aware - all with kids and wives - who didnt see their 45th birthday - none of them did. They were the most pleasant and outwardly happy-go-lucky guys you could wish to meet, yet each hid a darkness in them that claimed them eventually. They didnt want to burden anyone with their problems Im sure but theyre missing from their family tables now - what greater burden is that?
All their memories came to me as I finished reading this and I thank God for their short lives and the light they shone. Thank you for sharing this painfully true writing.
