"Shadows"

"Shadows"

A Poem by Valentine
"

After spouse abuse I had seizures for over ten years...I would get up in the night and write down a poem..not even knowing that I had gotten out of the bed..I found hundreds of poems written when I was in this black seizure period. Where their idea came

"

      "Shadows"

Light and shadows, against the wall,

Day and night ...at my beck and call.

Truth and lie, accepted at will...

Life and death forgotten...until

Pain and comfort... recall it all.

Daydream and nightmare, come at night fall.

In night's shadows, death does lie,

In daylight...all dreams die.

Life and comfort, so hard to find.

Death and pain...often first, in the mind.

Daydream's lies...twisted with pain.

Truth in nightmares, old memories lain.

So much to lose...so little gained,

Teardrops falling, from yesterday's rain.

Love and hate, closely intwined,

Accepting...you...are no longer mine.

Living in the shadows...of truth and lies.

Living with no comforts, may death's pain die.

Buried so deep, I can no longer feel pain.

Nightmares of you...over...again and again.

Deep in the darkness, longing to hide,

With all shadows...locked up outside.

Dear Valentine,
"shadows" Shadows of the past; I am glad they are gone and you have moved forward. Reading early work shows me a great deal about your history. Your have learned and become a wonderful strong lady.
It is inspiring to be able to experience within your words the depths people can tolerate and yet learn, continue and become far more than ever dreamed.
Bless you..................Kathy.

Your words have moved me to tears...I can't even imagine what it is like to live through abuse. I can feel the pain in your words. My heart goes out to you.

I can't take life too seriously. I know none of us are ever getting out of this thing alive. Just live and love every day and do the best we can...try to help each other and not focus on ourselves too much. That's my motto.

Sometimes it's only in retrospect that we recall the full horror of events in our lives. Then the best way to deal with them is write them out of our systems. You have done a sterling job here, Valentine.

I wrote this a very long time ago as you know. My deceased honey was a jewel..Kathie
Portrays a devastating absence of hope--hellish, in that regard.
Exceptional work, Valentine; amazing survival!

This is soooo painful to read. I can feel the loneliness that you are describing - it's so scary to fall in love - so many unknowns.

This is a beautiful poem written during such a tragic time for you. I loved the flow. My favorite part is the first stanza. I really thought that was a very powerful statement. Great poem.
