Your mother was wise, Kathie. Happiness seems to be an accumulation of small events, rather than one big momentous happening. While we run around seeking happiness it's there, in a bird song or sunset, or the warmth of a spring breeze on old bones.
Good write, Kathie

Ted, I think my mom had to stumble over a lot of boulders raising her 9 children....Kathie
love the metaphor ..such a sad theme ..ones life is not "fair" when filled only with the scraping and stubbing over rocks ... though, i believe there is a place for that indeed in all our lives .. some measure of peace and joy must follow sooner or later ..else we so easily become jaded :( so surprised by your use of free verse, Kathy; i love it!!!! :)

I just put down thoughts, I know nothing of proper writing. Kathie
"Good things come in small packages " seems to come to mind when I read this poem.
Happiness is usually a collection of seemingly insignificant "blessings " rather than a blockbuster experience. Pebbles can be re- distributed and shared.

Ron, I wanted to laugh at your response. As we get older it seems all that is left is eating. Kath.. read moreRon, I wanted to laugh at your response. As we get older it seems all that is left is eating. Kathie
A wonderful poem. This is old time classical poetry. I like the use of pebbles and rocks. I get more rocks than pebbles myself. Nice closure to a outstanding poem my dear friend.

John, you are a sentimentalist like me. Some of the old beats the new. Kathie
