Freedom Of The Mind

Freedom Of The Mind

A Poem by Valentine

      Freedom Of The Mind

One thing life cannot rob from me;
Are my thoughts, for they are free.
When old memories come to mind,
Whether sweet or some unkind.

Life cannot steal them away,
For in my mind, they dwell and stay;
And when a sweet thought comes to rest,
I can clutch it to my breast.

When the pain comes shining through;
I can discard the ones...of you.
I can think of whom I please,
Or even tell which thoughts to cease.

For they are mine and in me dwell;
They are free and not for sale.
Life might take...all that I possess;
But not my mind, which is worth less...

Than all possessions, that one sees,
For they are not... a part of me.
What I am, is held... deep inside,
In thought and memory, I abide.

Life might rob me, of all I own;
But my thoughts...are mine alone.

Valentine,
How true are your words. Our memories are some of the richest treasures we possess. Sitting under a tree feeling a cool breeze alone with our thoughts and memories is priceless. Thank you for reminding us of this hidden treasure.
Blessings,
Richie b.

well written. I also like how you gently remind us all that we can control our own thoughts, that we can discard the unpleasant ones.

"Life might rob me, of all I own;/ But my thoughts...are mine alone"

strong ending!

I enjoyed the phrasing in this. It flowed so well. And it also reads aloud wonderfully.

Thanks for sharing!

Oh I just love this! I won't write too much because I don't want to ruin what you've written; all my love for this, all the things I relate to and sparked thoughts, I will keep. Just know that I liked this very, very much

Indeed, no one can rob you of your memories or your opinions. They will always belong to only you. An empowering write, Kathie. Great rhyming. Lydi**

Theres currently an advertising campaign on TV here for dementia which has various people over 50 saying "I have dementia - but I'm still me!"
As long as you have your thoughts - you're still you and the same for us all.
Good job Kathie.

Thank you for your kind words. Kathie
Thoughts create their own pictures of our personal world, and your poem has qualified this.
With its rhythm and ballad style I have already heard this in my mind as a song. This will not steal your thoughts, simply add another dimension.

i am the consummate introvert and relate to all of this ..the mind is such a powerful thing ..and we use so very little of it ..its the final frontier isn't it!? even when the organic brain is turning to dust the outstanding question is about "consciousness" .. where does it lay ... what happens to it in the "end" ... ohhhhhh you've sparked me own brain this morning Valentine .. nice one!
